CHARLES TRENET, "BOUM," 1938

California based life + style blog, written by an espresso addicted Journalism student with an itch to explore the world. My name, Emily, means industrious: diligent, hard working, skillful, ingenious. I strive to live up to my namesake. Apparently, there are 206 countries in the world, though some argue fewer and some argue more. I'd like to visit each one - my count's at twelve. I'm an INFJ personality type, making up less than 1% of the population - creative, altruistic, determined, authentic, an overly-sensitive perfectionist. I hold Europe on a pedestal. Lover of vintage, and especially enamored by the culture of the late sixties and seventies. I believe in a thing called love, just listen to the rhythm of my heart.

Ambitious beginnings...

Long time web nerd, I've spent the greater part of my life enthralled by media. As a kid, I dabbled in theater, was passionate about MP/TV acting through high school and had a few odd modeling jobs - the highlight, a shoot with GQ Magazine that was never published. I was photographed by Ellen Von Unwerth and paid $100, and I was over the moon with nerves and excitement, but never pursued it much further. I also worked as an intern for a great photography duo, assisting at weddings across Southern California. During my first stint in college, I co-hosted a two hour radio show every Tuesday, called The Tuesday Mixtape. We played an eclectic mix of light-hearted indie and progressive political rap, and had the opportunity to interview a few of my favorite bands. I took a little hiatus from school and it was during this time that I saved to buy myself a DSLR, my Nikon D3200 that I use today. I was hired as a press photographer during Coachella Fest for Guest of a

Slice of life content...

Guest in April 2014. To get the [albeit unpaid] job, I had to submit an online photography portfolio - and Fait Boum was born. The first post you'll find on the blog today is a collection of a few of my shots that were published on GofaG. Inspired by Tuula, Lust for Life, Late Afternoon, and A Beautiful Mess, I wanted to take the blog to another level. Over the years, I've had a lot of hit-it-and-quit-it blogs, from Xanga to LiveJournal, Tumblr to Blogspot, I've played with them all. This is the first time that I am actively pursuing sponsorships in order to amplify my content and potentially turn this thing into a legitimate career. The Internet, and all of her possibility, fascinates me. Maintaining Fait Boum is at times a challenge, but it's more of a personal challenge - a desire to provide content whose quality is increasingly better, more interesting, more inspiring. The blog is an ever-evolving storybook that is pushing me to tackle new things. I look forward to what is yet to come.

Reality sets in...

In July, I lost my father. It was wholly unexpected, like something out of a tragic movie, to awake to a phone call from a man saying, "I am a fireman. I'm calling to tell you that your father has died. I'm with your mom, and you need to come to her house as soon as you can." That was it. No warning. No goodbye. Our last conversation over text the previous day, ending with me sending two thumbs up emojis. Emojis! Life is unfair. I guess I'm realizing that everyone dies and what matters most is what you do with your time. My dad was accomplished, educated, well-traveled, a lover of the open road, a bit of a free spirit and progressive like me. One of his best friends told me that I am my father's legacy, it is up to me to carry the torch. I celebrated my twenty-sixth birthday at the onset of July and my dad gave me his final gift, a little magnet imprinted with a quote from Thoreau: "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you've imagined." So this is what I've set out to do, to make my father proud, to further his legacy, to fervently follow my dreams.
